What is an IP address?
An IP address is the number every device and server on the internet has. The devices at your home or office usually share one public IP address given by your ISP; that's the address you see when you open this page.
IP addresses are handed out in blocks to ISPs and hosting companies by regional registries such as RIPE NCC, ARIN and APNIC. Our tool finds the block an address belongs to from those registries' RDAP services, and the autonomous system (ASN) announcing it from routing data.
You can also enter a domain name; the tool resolves it and looks up its IP. Local network addresses (like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) and reserved ranges aren't looked up.
